Our research about relations in a school
What is your concept of a teacher?
To know this, we asked are class to fill in a questionnaire. (seen on the right -> ) Most of them couldn't chose between some questions. So they wrote down ''in between''. But, when you ask something to twenty students, you will always have different opinions. But they do agree that you (as a teacher) may talk about your private live and eat/drink in the lesson c: How do you relate to your teacher? Silvia asked a few kids about how they relate to their teacher. Sadly only one of them wanted to be filmed, which is shown on the right. The other ones prefered to not be on here. Well, that's okay with me. What they all answered was the same, behave to your teacher and be polite (even if you don't like your teacher) What specific qualities of your teachers do you admire/appreciate and why? Merle: What I appreciate about (most) of my teachers, is that they check how busy we are when they for example have to plan a test. Melissa: In my opinion, they don't have any xD Silvia: Some of them can be very funny in class and they can also have a great sense of humor! What kind of relationship did your (grand)parents have with their teacher? Merle interviewed her parents to know more about their time at school. When you were in secondary school, how did you relate to your teacher? Mother: I asked him questions if I didn’t understand the course, but most of the time I tried to answer his questions Father: I held them I high regard, in part because my mother was one of them, so if I would misbehave in class I would hear about it at home. And what did you think of your follow classmates? Mother: some of them I liked, I had a small group of 6 friends, I spent most of the time with them. Father: well, since it is over a period of 7 years, the relationship with my classmates changed, especially when I doubled one class, because I was one year older than they were. I had a few good friends but the rest of my classmates were just classmates. If you were a teacher, what would your lessons look like? Mother: a lot of explanation, I like to explain material and I like to discuss the content with the students. And they can do their homework at home. Father: I would do a lot of experiments, because I believe that in the subject that I would teach (a natural science subject) people benefit by a lot of experiments, seeing how nature works. Which is the other staff in your school and do you interact with them? Merle really likes to interview, so she also did this one :D Sadly, the interviewed teachers didn't want to have their names here. Teacher 1 is a geography teacher. Teacher 2 is a janitor. You can see what questions she made AND the results of it, just hit that button on the right -> How would you stop bullying in your school? On many schools there are some kids that don´t feel safe. They are scared for almost everything and really insecure. All because of people who aren´t kind and bully them. Most childs don´t dare to say anything because they are scared that it becomes worse. We want to help those childs with showing that they are not toys you can throw things at or scream curses to them. How can you stop it?
Don't worry, I know this helps!! Do you have any Teachers day celebration in your school? Teachers day is an day when all the teachers of the whole school celebrate their birthday on the same day with all kind of games spread over the whole day. We started the day with putting our chairs in a circle, put all the presents for the teacher on a big table and decorate the room before the teacher came in. When she was in the room we all sang ‘Happy birthday’ to her. After that we were all going to give the presents to her. Of course she thanked us for all the nice presents. So when we did all the presents, we were going to play games :D The ones that won got a price. We also had a catwalk, every class had to choose the one with the best costume in their group. The ones that were chosen had to come all together and walk over the catwalk where the whole school looked at them. The one with the best costume won a price and a medal. Then we all partied in the halls. After about 15 minutes, the partying was over and we had to go home. I always helped cleaning up, so I got a candy ;P I like to know what you did on your school with Teachers day. Was it likely as fun as our day? Do you think relations in a school play an important role in the student's life? I think we all agree that relations in a school play an important role. Not only how you behave, but also, how you feel. Like, if you are bullied, you won't like to be at school. But if the teachers are nice, the schoolmates are right, you will probably enjoy school c: What have we learnt from this topic? What did we like? And what would we do different? Merle: I really liked the fact that you had to do interviews. And that is also what I learned from this project; how to make the right question. What would I do different? Well, probably gather more information and take some pictures when I did an interview. Melissa: What I learned, is that everyone has a different opinion about a teacher. And what I definitly liked about this project, is the teamwork. What I didn't like is that when we had a videoconference, we couldn't understand each other that well...... Silvia: I really learned much, like how the view of a student towards the teacher is, how teacher think about relationships in the class. What should I give a ''like''? Mmh... I really liked to gather all this information, to play around on this website, and more ;D What should they change?? Maybe... organise the videoconferences a little better? |
